Wrap Yourself In Your Memories

Top o' the Morning, Friends,

Lions and Tigers and Sloths, Oh My!

When I began this newsletter I thought it would be filled with leprechauns and four leaf clovers. but it soon filled with lions, tiger, sloths, goats, and cute kitties from the Quilt of the Month!
This quilt is special for many reasons. It was made for a graduating senior from Rapid City, South Dakota who loves animals and volleyball. I like it because I get to add South Dakota to my list of 22 states that have received my quilts. Kori's shirts, including a pair of sloth socks, make this quilt very unique and eye catching. Her favorite shirt was the goat shirt, so I redesigned the quilt to allow for this over-sized block. It is the focal point of the quilt.
There are many occasions to have a Memory Quilt made. In this newsletter you will see different occasions. Some quilts are made to commemorate a child's youth, some are made to celebrate a retirement, some are made to  honor a loved one that has left us.  Whatever the occasion, Memory Quilts help us celebrate and remember. If you are interested in a Memory Quilt please contact me ASAP. Currently I have 21 quilts in the queue.
May the luck of the Irish be with you always!

Up close photo of the tiger block! Notice the long arm quilting stitch. I think I hear him roaring!

A New Theme!

Recently I was contacted to make a Retirement Quilt for a nurse in California who was retiring from the hospital where she worked.
Her co-workers provided a beautiful group picture of the hospital staff.  I created a vibrant lap quilt in the traditional block style. No t-shirts were used, just beautiful cotton fabric-an authentic quilt! What a great keepsake for the special retiree.

Sorry folks, but hoodies do not work well in Memory Quilts. I never put zippers in my quilts, and frequently the graphics surround the zipper like in these 2 hoodies shown below. Many other items work really well, like flannel pants, sweat shirts, varsity letters to name a few.

Cartoon Crazy

Who remembers Timmy Turner from the Fairly Odd Parents TV cartoon?  This modern style, full size quilt was made for a graduating senior whose childhood nickname was Timmy Turner. He even had a hockey jersey bearing this name!  Of course it was added to his quilt! What a sweet memory. This graduate is a true hockey and baseball fan!

Remembering Bonnie

These two Modern style lap quilts were made in honor of Bonnie, a woman taken from us way too soon.  Each quilt reflects Bonnie in a very unique way. The first quilt contains a lot of Bonnie's favorite clothes. It was made for her daughter and has a very feminine look. I think it illustrates Bonnie's flare beautifully.

Bonnie's Bunch Walks For Cancer

This is a close up of the center blocks in the second quilt. A beautiful picture of Bonnie is shown. This picture is from a t-shirt that was worn at the annual walk that is held in Bonnie's honor. It helps raise money for cancer research.
I embroidered the word Mom below this very special block- another great way to personalize each quilt.

The quilt shown below contains her clothes too but they are presented in a more masculine way for her son. The blue backing is perfect for this quilt. Both of these quilts were given to Bonnie's children for Christmas. I have since heard that the children love them, so does Bonnie's mother and sister.
