 Appliqué

  • Is a fancy sewing term that means: a cutout decoration sewn onto a larger piece of material.
  • An applique in the world of Memory Quilts is typically a piece of your treasured memory that will not fit into the quilt design chosen. Here at MQMB we don't discard it, we applique it onto your quilt!

This applique is placed in the quilt where it will be highlighted best! Examples shown below are: graduation sashes, patches, bathing suits, ties, bibs, infant hats, and autographs.

A Graduation Sash!

A martial arts patch and a name written in Korean!

A sweet bathing suit!

Neck ties work beautifully!

A varsity letter

Infant hat

Handwritten autograph

A pair of suspenders

Scout badges
These appliques make the quilts truly custom!

So many precious items come into my shop that don't fit into the "standard" quilt design. I make sure that these items are included in your Memory Quilt.  It requires more sewing but it's what makes my quilts stand out from the rest ;)

Salamu! (Greetings in Swahili)

 Shhhhh, It's a Surprise!

This past month Memory Quilts by Molly (MQBM) has been incredibly busy making holiday quilts. There will be some very lucky people out there receiving them! Sadly, I can't share too many photos this month because most of the quilts are gifts and I don't want to spoil the surprise!  I do love this time of year, my shop feels like Santa's workshop! Please remember that late summer into early Fall is the time to order holiday quilts!
This month I have selected a gorgeous queen size, modern style Cheer quilt as Quilt of the Month.  Read on for more about this stunning quilt!
Currently I have 19 quilts on my schedule. If you are interested in a quilt for any occasion, please contact me ASAP so I can add you to the list.  January is the time to order graduation quilts! I already have six on my schedule. So please do not delay.
May each and every one of you enjoy this season of Thanksgiving. Thank you for your continued support!

 Quilt of the Month

I have selected this modern style queen size because it is filled with cheer leading memories!  Plus the colors are stunning.  Look close and you will see even cheer leading uniforms. This quilt measures 90" wide by 108" long and is backed with a beautiful light blue cotton!

The two stars have been appliqued onto a special t-shirt of Ashley's that has her  name on it.

The stars and the logo "STAR"  came from her actual cheer leading uniform, perfect applique items.

 Feeds the Soul

Recently, I had an appointment with a customer who told me that Memory Quilts feed the soul!  I do believe that Memory Quilts illustrate our past so beautifully . Customers have shared countless stories about how their Memory Quilt has either:

  • helped them through tough times
  • has honored a lost loved one
  • has become a mosaic of childhood
  • some even illustrate a hobby like marathon running or concert going.

Whatever the reason, Memory Quilts really can feed the soul. They bring a sense of nostalgia, comfort, and warmth! Below is Theresa who is wrapped in her mosaic of her childhood. Her Memory Quilt contains  special appliques: a graduation sash and  a special  umbrella!

Hawaii, Nevada and Indiana Here We Come!

Yes, folks this holiday season my quilts will be going to these states as well as many other states across our country! Maybe I should hand deliver the Hawaiian one!
If you are counting that makes 26 states, 6 countries, and 4 continents that MQBM has shipped to!
Oh the places my quilts will go!

 Traveling the World

Above is a staggered style lap quilt that contains many t-shirts from around the country.  From Nantucket to Alaska, these shirts are filled with sweet memories.

 Seeing Double!

No, you are not seeing double! This is the second queen size quilt made in the Modern stye that was produced this month. It is a memorial quilt made in honor of a loving wife who recently passed away.

Rock On

This Genesis Rock concert t-shirt is from 1982! How cool is that!  So many of us have saved shirts from   our most memorable concerts of our youth.  Great music, great bands, and great memories!

Love these vintage garments that make Memory Quilts that much more special. They are real treasures. Rock on!

The picture shown below on the left is the gorgeous backing that was selected for this queen size quilt.  This premium fabric makes this quilt truly reversible

 Team Spirit!

I was honored to make a Memory Quilt for the Parkinson Unity Walk for the second year in a row.  This quilt, as well as last year's quilt, was the Grand Prize and went to the team that raised the most money during the Parkinson Unity Walk that is held every year in Central Park NYC in April.

Quilting and Walking for a Great Cause

This quilt  measures 85" wide by 95" long and is filled with over 60 teams shirts that represent the many teams that walked in the Unity Walk. Many of  the shirts are so special because they contain photos that honor those who have died from Parkinson's Disease.
Team James Lee won this very special quilt. You can see their shirt in the middle.
