What could possibly be interesting about a handkerchief?
Everything! They are beautiful pieces of high quality linen or satin fabric that typically have ornate embroidery or pictures on them. Handkerchiefs have been a part of world culture for thousands of years. But, it seems like the truly ornate ones just aren't being made anymore. Recently, a client came to my door with a collection of hankies from the 1940's.
She had about 50 of them! If turns out her grandmother collected them through out the years, and actually labeled them with the names of the family and friends that had given then to her!
Talk about family history! It is all about the stories hidden in their folds, and people always enjoy a good story. If only these hankies could talk :) We just don't make hankies like we used to and that is sad.
How many hankies do you have lying around? They make absolutely beautiful quilts as shown to the left.
SAVE THOSE HANKIES!
